ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Marie-Christine Claveau comes from the beautiful region of Saguenay Lac St-Jean, Québec. She grew up watching the tides go in and out of the Bay through her classroom windows. After finishing a bachelors degree in Physical Education, with

a minor in Visuals Arts in 2001, she moved West. She first landed in Squamish, British-Columbia, where she lived in
her van on the side of the Mamquam River. She spent many years exploring the whole province while playing and working

in the forestry industry, to finally settle on Traditional Tsimshian Territory, on a small homestead in Rosswood, between the Skeena and the Nass rivers. Her favorite medium is acrylic. Her colourful work focus on the beauty of nature. She is inspired
by British Columbia’s incredible landscapes, flora and fauna. She’s had many solo exhibitions throughout Canada and often works in collaboration with other artists. She is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 2018, she was chosen, artist in residence at the Khutzeymateen Wilderness Lodge where she felt deeply inspired by what she greatly
appreciates; being surrounded by grandiose, raw nature. Some of her public work can be seen at Furlong Bay

Provincial Park and in and around the downtown area of Terrace, BC.

Marie-Christine Claveau vient de la belle région du Saguenay Lac St-Jean, Québec. Elle a grandi en regardant les marées aller et venir par les fenêtres des salles de classes. Après avoir terminé un baccalauréat en éducation physique et un

certificat en Arts Visuels, elle déménagea dans l’Ouest canadien. Son premier arrêt fut la ville côtière de Squamish en
Colombie-Britannique. Elle passa plusieurs années à explorer cette belle province pour finalement s’installer sur une fermette à Rosswood entre les rivières Skeena et Nass sur les Territoires Traditionnels des Nations Tsimshian. Elle peint à l’acrylique. Son médium favori. Ses oeuvres sont des représentations colorées des simples beautés de la nature; ses paysages, sa faune et sa flore dans leurs plus simple expressions. Marie-Christine a fait plusieurs expositions individuelle un peu partout au Canada,
mais aime aussi travailler en collaboration avec d’autres artistes. Elle est un membre actif de la Fédération des Artistes Canadiens. Elle fut l’artiste sélectionné en tant qu’artiste en résidence au Khutzeymateen Wilderness Lodge en 2018. Quelques unes de ses oeuvres publiques peuvent être vue au Parc Provincial Furlong Bay, dans le centre-ville de Terrace

et en proximité de la ville.

Optics is a collection of colourful, NorthWest themed, paintings. Through my art, I share with you some of my favourite places and treasures that can be found in our beautiful region. My focus in the past year, while creating this body of work, was on light. The way it saturates or desaturates colours and the way it can simplify shapes or make them
much more complex. I hope you enjoy..
