Book: Guardami, Sono Nuda/Look at Me, I am Nude, by Antonia Pozzi, originally published in 1929. Pozzi was an Italian poet, 1912-1938. While none of her poetry was published in her short lifetime, she wrote about 300 poems, and is considered a ‘physical poet’ due to the intense descriptions of nature and the body in her work. She had a crush on the poet Vittorio Sereni and when she found a love letter from him to another woman, she swallowed poison.

Book: Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, originally published in 1850. The sonnets were love poems written for her husband, fellow poet Robert Browning. Rather than risking scandal or gossip, she titled the volume Sonnets from the Portuguese, pretending to have translated another poet’s work rather than having written the very intimate works herself.
